fossil of the weekend! #38

a cast skeleton of antarctica's most famous dinosaur (but definately not its only!) cryolophosaurus. mounted at the auckland war memorial museum in auckland NZ.

Nice Mount, but there's one thing that puzzles me...Why is there even a Paleo exhibit at a WAR MEMORIAL Museum?! o_O It just doesn't seem to fit.

raptor- not all war memorial museums are specifically about war. especially in smaller cities (NZ's biggest is only a million ppl) they tend to be able to only build on big museum in town so combine all the possible genres into on institution.

thus they have a standard museum, but it was built in memory of those lost in the war (the auckland one's third floor is devoted to NZ's war involvement and it is a very impressive display) thus the name war memorial. there are similar museum's in north america, i just can't think of any off the top of my head.
