When out with my family we also found what look like quartz crystals in amongst the coal layer. Just wondering if they were quartz or something else. Some of them are rather brittle, others strong. I like to be able to tell the kids about natural history of the areas we go.Debbie Nicolaisenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08754968362670252343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34429437.post-87875550583591803012009-01-25T08:38:00.000-07:002009-01-25T08:38:00.000-07:00really nice lesson! I always hear the word "Format...really nice lesson! I always hear the word "Formation" but this is the first time I read an explanation for that word. I had figured out the concept somehow but I hadn't ever read an explanation .... at least before reading this post.

I really don't know if we ahve that iron rocks but I always hear that rocks from the Amazon are really difficult to study. We have a theropod that nobody has been able to remove from its stonegrave just because the rock is too much for the people that has ever tried to work on it.Dinorider d'Andoandorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02289450500493424952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34429437.post-7007566451461964222009-01-25T08:26:00.000-07:002009-01-25T08:26:00.000-07:00Nice Geology lesson. Speaking of Sedimentary rock,...Nice Geology lesson. Speaking of Sedimentary rock, here in Kentucky, we are loaded with Limestone. This contributes to the whole "Bluegrass" thing. Granted I'm not a native to Kentucky, I DO know some of the Geology of Kentucky. (Hey, that gives me a great idea for a post!!)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
